I was delighted to receive the award for Outstanding Contribution to Farming at the 2017 Western Daily Press Food & Farming Awards, which were held on Tuesday evening (9th May). It was a great pleasure to get to shake the hand of Gloucester and England rugby legend Phil Vickery upon receiving my award too.
I have spent most of my working life running dairy farms in Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall, and so I am particularly proud to be recognised for the contribution I have made to the farming industry in the South West. Today, I still have an active role in running farms in Somerset but I have been fortunate to extend my farming connections to all corners of the country, in my role as a director of the Free Range Dairy Network. I remain as passionate as ever about British farming and the wonderful food it delivers for our nation and I hope the work that our Network does to promote the true value of free range milk, under the Pasture Promise logo, will continue to make a significant contribution to winning a fair deal for farmers and cows.
I would to take this opportunity to thank the Western Daily Press for my award and the work it does to promote West Country Food and Farming. My congratulations to all the other award winners too!
