Thanks to all those who came along to the meeting in Narberth last week. It was really helpful to get some input from fellow farmers on how Free Range Dairy should be defined and thoughts on the way forward.

It was clear to see that grass and grazing play an important role on Welsh dairy farms and many have moved to spring calving systems to take full advantage of the excellent grass growing conditions in the west of the country.

I will take the comments and ideas from that meeting to our next event in Lancashire this Wednesday (27th June). I am confident that this process of consultation with farmers will enable us to come up with a set of simple standards to define free range milk production and grow a network of producers committed to grazing their herds.

I am getting a stead flow of enquiries form people eager to know where they can source milk and dairy products from free range herds. I want to put together a database of Free Range Dairy producers on the website to build a supply base, which can feed this growing demand.

Please keep an eye on the website for further developments.
